Celebration at the Meadow

Our Celebration in the Meadow on Saturday 24 July was a most happy afternoon. A lunchtime shower didn’t dampen enthusiasm and around 150 villagers and friends came along, plus between 40 and 50 dogs – they weren’t stationary long enough for us to count them accurately! Mandy had expertly organised our Dog Show with various events for different types of dog and had great difficulty choosing winners and prizes with so many entries; we are really grateful to Mandy and hope that the Meadow Dog Show will become a regular feature of trull life.

The ice cream van did a roaring trade, as did the raffle for the magnum of champagne and boxes of chocolates, raising a very useful £330 for Meadow funds. We also invited those interested to become Friends of Trull Meadow, and have since been able to hold the launch meeting of this supporters’ group to determine its role and begin to make plans for the future; no major changes to the Meadow will be proposed but it will be vital to maintain the character of this lovely space for the continuing enjoyment of the village.

Another recent event was the release of four owls into the Meadow by The Owl Trust. Whether they remain in the vicinity or seek pastures new further afield we shall see, but it was good to see the Meadow chosen for this interesting experiment.

Finally, a reminder that although the future of the Meadow is now secure, we still need to repay the loans that were generously made by several friends to enable us to complete the purchase. We need a further £50,000 to clear these debts and hope to have a further fund-raising initiative in late Autumn 2021, so if you are able to help please go to our “How to Give” page (duly noting our altered Bank Account number).
