In September 2022 Trull Parish Council deferred a decision on the
Trust's request for a grant from its CIL receipts to help us to secure
the purchase of the Meadow. The Council's subsequent on-line
Suggestions Board showed overwhelming support to a suggestion
that the Parish Council should give this Trust the funds it needs to
secure the purchase.
Despite this, at their December meeting the Parish Council voted
4:2 against doing so, but did approve funding of up to £20,000 to
be spent by the Trull Meadow Trust on approved infrastructure
projects. The Trust was to present its detailed proposals at the
January Council meeting.
In January, the Trust presented its infrastructure project to the
Councillors, which was to complete the purchase of the Meadow.
Clearly this has to be achieved before it is sensible to spend
money on any other project. This was not debated, nor were the
attending public given any answers to their questions why the
Parish Council had turned down our original request. After the
meeting, the Trust received written confirmation of the grant
offered for infrastructure projects, but was now told it had to apply
on the Council's Grant Application Form and must comply with the
Grants Policy. However, these documents would not be available
until approved by the Parish Council at its February meeting.
Our need to raise the £30,000 shortfall between the £120,000 of
generous public donations already received and the £150,000
purchase price remains. Whilst we will continue to seek a grant
from the Parish Council towards this total, success is far from
certain, so any and all further donations to help us to secure this
green space for the enjoyment of generations to come would be
very welcome.
